Sachem East Wrestling Wins LI Challenge

East won matches against Islip, Garden City and MacArthur.

Sachem High School East's varsity wrestling team has won the annual Long Island Challenge meet held at the 177 Granny Rd. school in Farmingville on Monday.

According to a Newsday report, the tournament ended with Sachem East defeating Islip, 46-18. Sachem East also won matches against Garden City, 58-14, and MacArthur, 55-21.

"This early in the year it's almost worse to be ranked first," East coach Issac Ramaswamy said in the report. "If you start believing that you can just go out and produce that result, it's downright dangerous. The good news is we have a bunch of kids, as they showed today, that are unaffected by that type of thing so far and they haven't given in to the pressure."
