Updated: 'Sachem Safety' Leaked Info Site Down Monday

Leaked information includes free/reduced lunch status list, home teaching report and some on former Sachem graduates, district said.

Update: The website has returned, but at different URLs than it was previously. The website does not have the download links but a list of students whose information is allegedly accessible.

Original story below:

The "Sachem Safety" website claiming to have made personal student information available for download is currently offline as of Monday at 7 p.m. and has been throughout the day.

The website alleges the district does not use enough security to protect the information from being accessed.

Sachem Central School District has posted two notices so far about an information leak on its website and the district's Facebook Page, but has not yet confirmed if the "Sachem Safety" website is the one under investigation. It is possible that other websites are leaking information.

Residents that have information about the situation are being encouraged to email Abuse@Sachem.edu, and the district said it is working with the Suffolk County Police and the FBI.

The school district's most recent update says that the information leaked regarding active students appears to be the free and reduced lunch status list from several years ago, the home teaching report from two years ago and information restricted to Sachem High School East graduates from 2008 and 2012.

Patch has reached out to the school district Monday for an updated statement and will post should we hear back.
