Sachem High School radio is the biggest educational radio station in the Northeast. Reaching 6,000 watts with itsMore tower, the student operated station is run by radio professional Mark Laura, a Sachem graduate from the 1980s.</p> <p><b>RELATED: Read the history of WSHR on Sachem Patch</b></p> <p>Formerly a full jazz station for many years, WSHR is now host to Top 40, classic rock and pop music. On Sundays, the station plays jazz music for the listeners deprived of their tunes from the past.</p> <p>During the school year, students host radio shows after class, starting at 3pm. Both Sachem High School North and East have broadcast journalism classes, which the radio station uses to stock its shows. The students also broadcast football and basketball games at North and East.</p> <p>Founded in the 1960s, WSHR has been a major part of the community in Sachem and Lake Ronkonkoma. It serves as an information source for school closings, calling graduation names, and everything in between.</p> <p>Party FM afternoon hosts Vic Latino and Matt Goldapper, as well as Sachem Patch Editor Chris R. Vaccaro, were all on the air at WSHR during their time in high school.</p>

Before the district split into two high schools in 2004, Sachem High School North was the only high school in theMore area since 1969. Now one of two high schools in one of the Northeast's largest school districts, Sachem North serves students grades 9 - 12. The sports teams are still known as the "Flaming Arrows," and the school is home to student operated radio station, 91.9 FM WSHR.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
