Holtsville Man Killed, Two Others Injured in Holbrook Crash

Accident around noon on Friday claims the life of 49-year-old Steven Hunter.

A Holtsville man died Friday afternoon in a two-car crash in Holbrook, police said. Steven Hunter, 49, was in the passenger's seat of a 2004 Saturn when his mother, Marilyn Hunter, 72, who was driving the car, attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Furrows Road from the northbound side of Patchogue-Holbrook road at 12:13 p.m., police said. A vehicle driven by Rosemarie Volonino, 72, of Holtsville, that was headed south on Patchogue-Holbrook Road, slammed into the passenger's side door of the Saturn, police said.   Steven Hunter died from his injuries at Brookhaven Memorial Medical Center, police said. His mother and Volonino were also taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. No criminal charges have been filed in the crash. The …

god bless both families but honestly i have been researching car accidents and people in their 70's and 80's that are involved. There are many car accidents that happen with the elderly driving and I believe that they should be tested again when they are a certain age and continued to be tested to see if they are able to drive. Farmingville Fire Department Honors Mia Wojciechowski

Seven-year-old who helped family escape fire is recognized by the Farmingville Fire Department.

Farmingville Fire Department Chief Eddie Stewart III presented a plaque Monday on behalf of the department to Mia Wojciechowski for her quick and heroic actions during a fire last month. On April 18, at approximately 2 a.m. the Farmingville Fire Department received a call of a reported structure fire at 82 South Howell Ave. Upon arrival the house was fully engulfed in flames and it was unknown if there were occupants within the residence.  When the first unit arrived it was reported that an occupant had woken her family and they had all escaped. It wasn’t until later on did we learn because of the heroic efforts of 7-year-old Mia Wojciechowski her family is safe today. Every year the Farmingville Fire Department visits local Sachem …

Farmingville Man Charged in Attempted Robbery of Dunkin' Donuts

Pair arrested and charged following police chase that ended in Eastport.

A Farmingville man was arrested Thursday night after police say he attempted to rob a Dunkin' Donuts in Blue Point. Kerry Crosby, 22, was apprehended at the scene, police said. The incident began after a 911 call reported a person acting suspiciously as they fled from the Dunkin' Donuts on Montauk Highway into the parking lot at approximately 9:40 p.m. When Fifth Precinct officers arrived on the scene they discovered that two people had just attempted to rob the store. Police say a box cutter was used in the attempted robbery and the robbers did not get any cash. The second suspect, according to police, fled on foot from the location but was then observed driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee on Route 112 in Medford. Responding officers attempted …

E. Patchogue Man Charged With Armed Robbery of Holbrook Dunkin' Donuts

Ryan Trepiccione, 26, was arrested at his East Patchogue apartment on Tuesday, police say.

Police arrested an East Patchogue man on Tuesday and charged him in the armed robbery of a Holbrook Dunkin' Donuts last week. Ryan Trepiccione, 26, walked into the Dunkin' Donuts on Furrows Road last Thursday evening, approached an employee and displayed a handgun, police said. Trepiccione demanded money from the employee, who complied with the demand and Trepiccione fled the scene, police said. Trepiccione was arrested at his East Patchogue apartment at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Police did not say what led them to Trepiccione.  Trepiccione is charged with first degree robbery and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Police: Swastikas Spray Painted on Holbrook Fence

Hate crime unit is investigating incident that took place between Sunday evening and Monday morning, police say.

A Holbrook resident awoke to an awful surprise Monday morning, finding swastikas spray painted on a fence outside their home. The swastikas were discovered on several panels of the fence at the home located at 50 Avenue B, just north of the Long Island Expressway, police said. A resident called police Monday morning to report the incident, which is now being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Hate Crimes Unit. Police believe the spray painting occurred sometime between 7 p.m. on Sunday and 7 a.m. on Monday. Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the Hate Crimes Unit at 631-852-6323 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
