Weird News: Alien Caterpillar Spotted in Shelter Island

Shelter Island Monster?

It might look scary to some, or creepy or beautiful to others – depending on one's affinity for bugs.

Regardless, a hickory horned devil, as it's known, was spotted on Shelter Island Thursday morning, a rarity in the area. Cornell Cooperative Extension etymologist Dan Gilrein said it's the third spotting he's heard of in the past three years, having heard of none before then.

Ticket Booth Beat Up

A woman who was reportedly upset with the parking fee imposed at the Holtsville Ecology Center on Aug. 15 began punching the windows of the ticket booth and threatening the female employee inside. The ticket booth was not damaged and the employee was ulimately not harmed. No arrests were made from the incident.

There was no word on the condition of the ticket booth.
