Heritage Carnival

The North Shore Heritage Center in Mt. Sinai is hosting their Fall Into Fun Carnival from Thurs. thru Sat.  Rides, games and food are on tap as are fireworks for Friday night.

6th Annual Taste of Port Jefferson

The 6th Annual Taste of Port Jefferson will include more than 35 local restaurants serving up small bites desserts and drinks. The four hour event starts at noon at the Port Jefferson Village Center and runs until 4 p.m. For ticket information, click here. The only thing you need to bring is an empty stomach.

Get Behind the Wheel of a Go-Kart

If you've always thought a go-kart looks pretty cool, but have never the opportunity to test one out, Sunday is your chance. Models are grouped according to a riders age and size and run from ages 3-8, 5-12 and 5-adult. Test drives start at 11 a.m. at Lanie's Way and run until 3 p.m.

Sport Fishing on Long Island

Join Captain Jerry McGrath for a multimedia lecture for the fishing novice, and the advanced angler at Port Jefferson Free Library on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. There will be a discussion on bait and lure selections, and techniques for hooking them on rod and reel.

Farmers Market

Shop for local produce at the Port Jefferson Farmers Market Sunday morning from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Lanie’s Way parking lot.

e-Waste Collection Event

The Comsewogue Public Library is  holding an e-Waste collection event this Saturday OCT-5th in their main parking lot at 10 a.m.

Three Village

Civil War Re-Enactment

Head down to Emma S. Clark Memorial Library on Saturday for a civil war re-enactment between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Craft Class: Nuno Felting

The Japanese art of nuno felting will be taught in a three-hour workshop on Sunday at Gallery North starting at noon ($90 fee).

Classical Music

The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra will take the stage at the Staller Center on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Alternatives for Children, 17th Annual Classic & Sports Car Rally

Join a fundraiser to benefit programs for disabled children run by East Setauket-based Alternatives for Children. The ride starts with a light breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at their East Setauket facility and travels down to East Quogue, with a lunch reception at Dockers Waterside.

Afternoon Matinee at the Library

Head down to Emma S. Clark Memorial Library on Friday for a free afternoon matinee, “Amour,” at 2 p.m.

Birds of Prey

Also at the library on Saturday, Sweetbriar Nature Center will be on hand to show live birds of prey – including an owl, hawk and falcon – from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Weather permitting; must bring chairs/blankets to sit on.

Home Grown String Band

The rural string bands of the 1920s and 30s inspired this real family band, who will perform at 11:15 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. at Emma S. Clark Memorial Library.

Crossroads Church Open House

Crossroads Church is a new religious organization in Stony Brook. Pastor DeGraw will lead an open house event on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Miller Place-Rocky Point

Cedar Beach Arts and Music Festival

The 23rd Annual Music and Arts Festival is happening at Cedar Beach on Sat. and Sun. from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. 40 bands will be on tap performing all weekend long as well as food and stuff for the kids to do.

Women’s Conference and Expo

The Town of Brookhaven’s Division of Women’s Services will host its seventh annual Conference and Expo on Sat. from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. This year’s conference is titled “Women Empowering Women – Work, Health, Family,” and will feature guest speakers, vendor booths and four workshops that promote wellness and personal growth in the lives of women in the community.

Get fit with a  Koga class Saturday morning at the Heritage Center in Mount Sinai.

Sayville-Bayport

Fundraiser

Strides for the Center Johnny Mac Foundation Run/Walk will be held Sat. Oct. 5 with a start time of  8 a.m. at the Blue Point Fire Department, on Blue Point Avenue, Blue Point. The event benefits the Johnny Mac Foundation effort to build a community center.

Fundraiser

A fundraiser to help ROHHADS Fight will take place at the Apple Fest, on Broadway Avenue, in Sayville on Sat. Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. Local authors, Deanna Suckow (Sayville), Deanna Schwartzman (Commack) along with St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sayville will have a fundraiser at their concession from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. They will be raising funds for ROHHADS FIGHT INC. for research to help, Marissa Carney, who was diagnosed (at the age of 4) with ROHHAD (Rapid-Onset Obesity with Hypothalmic Dysfunction, Hypoventilation and Autonomic Dysregulation, an extremely rare disease which is drastically underfunded. They will donate 20% of the sales of their three books.

Religious

A Blessing of the Animals will take place Sun. Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at St. Ann's Episcopal Church 257 Middle Rd., Sayville. Every year the church celebrates St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, and invites parishioners to bring their pets to the church for a blessing. In the past we have had dogs, cats, parrots, guinea pigs, goldfish, and other assorted pets. Please join us and bring your properly restrained pet-- that's on a leash-- for this special celebration.

Sachem

Gatelot Bleachermania

On Friday at 3:15, head over to Gatelot Elementary School and help your neighborhood get prepared for Homecoming.


Star Wars Reads Day

Head over the Sachem Public Library on Saturday, starting at noon. Dress up as your favorite character and drop in throughout the afternoon for crafts and movies.

Pink Hair Extensions

The Renaissance Salon on Hawkins Avenue in Ronkonkoma is holding a fundraiser on Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Members of the salon are walking 39.3 miles in the Avon Walk NYC on October 19-20.

Patchogue

Film: Blackfish

Head over to the Plaza Cinema on Friday at 7:30 p.m. to catch this interesting documentary about the dual nature of Orca whales.

Book Sale

The Friends of the Patchogue-Medford Library are holding a book sale at the library on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. Head over there and get quality books for a bargain.

Concert

The Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts presents the “Atlantic Wind Symphony” on Sunday at 3 p.m.
