Coming Up This Week: Celebrity Softball, Katie Beers
A look at the week ahead in events and Patch coverage.
Here are some of the events and coverage highlights coming up this week for the Sachem area.
1st Annual Celebrity Softball Game. Yesterday the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce held its first-ever charity softball game to raise funds for "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Patch was at the game and will have photos, clips and other highlights from the event.
Also, we've got a Patch Clip of our conversation with Sachem East Varsity Football Coach Mark Wojciechowski. The coach describes how the team is looking for the upcoming season, fresh off its successful 2012 campaign.
Meet Author Katie Beers. Many of you may be familiar with the harrowing story of Katie Beers, who was abducted by a family friend and kept in an underground bunker for 17 days back in 1992. More than two decades later, Beers has decided to tell her story in a memoir entitled "Buried Memories." Beers will be at the Sachem Public Library on Wednesday night to discuss her book and sign copies as part of the library's summer reading club. Registration will be required for this event. Holbrook Carnival & Craft Festival is here! The Holbrook Chamber of Commerce kicks off its annual Carnival & Craft Festival on the grounds of Seneca Middle School in Holbrook. This year's theme is Country-Western. The four-day festival kicks off on Thursday, which will close with a fireworks show. Click the headline for more information.
Long Island Comedy Festival. On Friday night at 8 p.m., head over to 112 Park Grille in Medford for the Long Island Comedy Festival. Tickets are $30. If you're in the mood for some laughs, mark you calendars.
