Tamarac Students Raise Money for Toys for Tots

Develop idea, learn values of business and charity in elementary school.

Last week a group of fifth grade students at Tamarac Elementary School raised over $750 during a holiday boutique to support the Toys for Tots charity.

Gianna Lopreto, Kelly Sulzer, Julia Anello, Jillian Cusa, Sara Schatz made duct tape accessories during their free time (wallets, purses, bookmarks, pens, etc.) and sold them as holiday gifts. The Tamarac PTA shared their fundraiser with the girls who learned a valuable lesson in business as well as charity.

They came to Tamarac Principal Mike Saidens a few weeks back asking if they could help give other children a nice Christmas by donating to Toys for Tots.

“The girls did all aspects of the activity from purchasing the materials, to creating the items, to selling them at the boutique,” he said.

After adding up their earnings, they went shopping at Toys R Us and donated all of the items they purchased.

“The girls worked extremely hard and their efforts should be celebrated as they are helping other children have a special holiday this year,” said Saidens. “It is so wonderful to see how the Tamarac community inclusive of the children, parents and staff went above and beyond to support this initiative.  This is an amazing example of what the Tamarac community is about and a great example of charity.”
