Sachem Alums Selling Christmas Wreaths to Raise Money for Cancer Foundations

Looking to make a difference this holiday season with charitable work.

A group of Sachem alumni are selling Christmas wreaths to raise money for cancer research.

Backed by the Livestrong Foundation and the National Breast Cancer Association, they are offering wreaths for $25 with a portion of the proceeds going to the foundations. The Wreaths come with a maroon or red bow with a pink breast cancer symbol in the middle and with Gold Christmas decorations, including balls and pine cones.

For two of the young men involved, the ability to raise money for an important issue hits home. Chris Lacagnina lost his mother to lung and brain cancer in Sept. 2008 and Matt Ferber's mom beat breast cancer.

"Everyone knows someone in their life who has been affected by cancer and this is just one small way to donate some money during the holiday season when people need it the most," Lacagnina said.

"Wreaths for a Cure has been great," Ferber added. "We have Santa down at the stand with us on the weekends to help spread holiday cheer and raise money for cancer.

"This is our first year with wreaths for a cure and we've been getting a lot of positive feedback. We are all very excited to see how this initiative will grow in the years to come."

Joe Massaro, another alum helping out, said it's tedious decorating every wreath by hand, "but it's all work it when it's for a  good cause."

You can pick up a wreath at the Gulf Station located at Portion Road and Schoolhouse Road in Lake Ronkonkoma, or check out the order form in the gallery box above.
