Ronkonkoma Business To Stuff Back-To-School Bags

Company plans to pack 3,000 backpacks for Long Island's underserved.

Ronkonkoma-based nutritional supplement manufacturer NBTY is teaching a lesson about giving to those in need by hosting a school supply drive at its headquarters at 2100 Smithown Avenue.

The goal for NBTY, and its charitable arm, Helping Hands, is to stuff 3,000 backpacks with a full range of school supplies to offset the cost of back-to-school needs for underserved children on Long Island.

According to a release from the company, the average cost of school supplies this year is expected to reach $125, a steep price tag for some Long Island families. The backpacks that NBTY and volunteers stuff will benefit Long Island Cares, Island Harvest and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
