North Freshmen Rally Around Sick Girl

You can help too ... vote for Team Sanfilippo in the Pepsi Refresh contest.

Freshmen from Sachem High School North have taken to a cause to help a young lady in their own backyard.

Emily O’Connor is fighting a terminal illness, Sanfilippo Syndrome, and is hoping to win a $250,000 grant from Pepsi.

Mike Schulz, a freshman at North, has made up flyers to promote the idea of dying your hair purple in support of Sanfilippo. Purple is the recognized color for MPS illnesses. He has also made up flyers supporting the voting on the Pepsi site for TeamSanfilippo.

Schulz, along with many other freshmen, including O’Connor’s sister Bethany Pixler, are working hard at this and other fundraisers to have in May to support MPS Awareness Day. Samoset Middle School is also on board with flyers and are working on May fundraisers as well.

“I am amazed at the support that our community is giving us,” said Danielle O’Connor, Emily’s mom. “My daughters have amazing friends that have all been together since Gatelot. They are proving how amazing young people are and how the can come together to help out one another. I am so proud of all of them!  They came to me with this, they are doing this on their own.”
