First Clothing Drive For Ailing North Student Collects Mountains of Clothes

Community Drive for Nicholas Franzi draws volunteers to Sachem East High School over the weekend.

They may be rivals on the playing fields, but over the weekend, Sachem East and Sachem North became one Sachem as they pulled together for a massive clothing drive for North student Nicholas Franzi.

Franzi suffers from chronic mylogenous leukemia (CML), an uncommon type of cancer that is even more rare among children. The clothing drive gathers pounds of clothes, shoes, blankets and toys, and each pound adds up to funding to support a cure for CML. The photo gallery, taken by Chris Vaccaro, PR and communications manager for Sachem Schools, captures the action at Sachem East High School.

If you missed this special event, don't fret. Another clothing drive will be held on October 20, at Sachem North. According to a release from Sachem Schools:

Please donated your unwanted:

  • Clothes and shoes – any condition and size
  • Toys – in boxes, no plastic bags
  • Curtains, towels, blankets and pillows

Location: Sachem High School North, 212 Smith Rd. Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y. 11779

Date: Oct. 20, 2012

Time: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
