Fashion Show Celebrates Savers Grand Opening

New Holbrook store helps save community economy and environment.

Savers opened their doors to the Sachem community Wednesday night at their newest location on Long Island in Holbrook with a fashion show flaunting the hottest designer fall trends Savers has to offer.

Celebrating their relationship with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island and their energy and environmentally friendly business practices, Savers hosted a sneak peak of their 30, 118 square feet of second-hand vintage and designer clothing for the whole family, handbags, books, toys, sports equipment, furniture and odd knickknacks.

Savers, which first opened their doors in San Francisco, California in 1954 by founder, William O. Ellison, pays Big Brother Big Sisters by the pound for any items that are donated to them. Through this partnership, Savers is able to the fund a not-for–profit community building organization. They call it the Savers Cycle. Any articles that are deemed unsellable are shipped to developing nations. According to the Savers website, last year they saved the planet's landfills from 20 billion pounds of unused clothing.

"All of our profits stay on Long Island," said Al Penna, the manager of the Holbrook.

The Savers staff was busy stocking nearly 6,000 items to the floor daily organized by size and color-yellow to white. The majority of the full outfits, clothing, shoes and accessories, were in the $20 to 40 price range. Local stylist Denise Delise coordinated the attire which was made up of all Savers clothing including labels from Forever 21, BCBG, Christen Dior, Express, Ed Hardy and more.

"I wanted to focus on the current season-fall fashion," said Delise. "I stuck to the neutral palate using grey, black, eggplant and ox blood."

Delise showed the Sachem community what Savers has to offer for all age groups including both vintage and modern back to school and business casual items. The most expensive item was a grey mens woolen trench coat for $49.99.

The evening welcomed a generous turnout of local residents as well as delicious fresh fruit, pungent cheese and savory crab cakes complements of Moriches Caterers.

Join Savers, which is located in the Costco parking lot off Sunrise Highway and Nichol's Road, Thursday to celebrate their grand opening at 9 a.m. at 7001 Sunrise Highway in Holbrook.
