Lake Ronkonkoma Beach Reopened

After recent samples, Suffolk Health Department deems waters safe.

The Suffolk County Health Department Health Services department  has declared the waters at safe to reopen, after closing the beach to bathers just days ago.

"The beach closure issued for Lake Ronkonkoma Beach in Islip, NY has
been lifted, as results of recent samples collected show the water quality to
be within acceptable levels," the department stated in a release.

On June 5 Patch the beaches had been closed due to elevated levels of E-coli bacteria in the lake. At the time, a spokesperson for the Office of Ecology said the waters would be tested on a daily basis until it was cleared for swimmers.
