Week 3: Conference Schedule Opens with Wins, Team Faces Adversity Early On

An insider's look at playing lacrosse at Sachem North.

Last week, we reached the league games in our schedule. Suffolk County Class A is regarded to be the most competitive high school lacrosse league in the United States.

Our first league test was Middle Country, who stood a surprising 2-0 at the time. With this game came sad news, one of our captains, Jake Cabble, had his season ended by injury. In support and great sadness, we wrote his initials, JC and his number 7 on our legs.

We once again stressed the theme of focus, and coming out strong for this game. After letting up two goals early, we were only up 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. From then on, the offense started to click, and only two more goals were allowed in the rest of the contest. The final result, a 17-4 Sachem win.

Our next test, and biggest so far this season, came Friday night against the No. 2 team in Nassau County. We laced up our cleats in pink, and took the field with two goals, to beat up on one of the better teams in a rival county and also to raise money for cancer research. Donations were collected through the game and with the efforts of a Sachem family along with the lacrosse club; hundreds of dollars were raised in donations.

As for the game, the constant barrage our offense had to offer was too much for the Syosset defense to handle. After ending the half at 7-2, we finished the game with a convincing seven-goal margin, with a final score of 14-7.

After our 19-3 win Monday against Half Hollow Hills West, we are reaching the toughest part of our schedule. Wednesday, we have another league test against the Walt Whitman Wildcats.
