Week 1 Preview: Sachem East @ Central Islip

Flaming Arrows travel to Musketeer country for a low-seed battle.

When 10 and 11 seeded teams battle, anything is possible. Both schools had down seasons last year and both are hungry to be one of the top eight teams in Suffolk's Division I at the end of the regular season.

Look for Central Islip's veteran running game to support the bulk of their offensive efforts. The same should be the case for East, who will use sophomore Steven Casali for the first time. He played on East's JV team that went 7-1 last year.

In-game battles: East will have to stop RB/DB Darrel Flores, who compiled over 800 yards last year out of the backfield (211 receiving yards). With a first year quarterback in junior Eric McCoy, Central Islip probably won't pass much. East also brings rookie quarterback Kyle Starke in to start his first game at the position. He's a senior, so his leadership abilities are more developed than McCoy.

Interesting facts

  • East is 2-4 all-time in Week 1 games.
