Volleyball Playoffs: North Advances to Semis, East Out
Sachem North beats Smithtown East, 3-0, in quarterfinals.
Third seeded Sachem North won its Suffolk County Class A quarterfinal match against No. 6 Smithtown East, 3-0, Friday evening.
Sachem (10-5) senior Matt Cahill recorded 17 kills and six blocks.
Sachem won the sets, 25-17, 25-13 and 25-22, and advances to the Class A semifinals against No. 2 Northport.

Northport beat No. 7 Sachem East, 3-0, in another quarterfinal match Friday.
Other sports news & notes: As for the varsity field hockey team, last Wednesday, they defeated Harborfields at home 2-1 on strokes, in large part from North goalie Chelsea Palma, who stopped 19 of 20 shots in regulation to lead the team to its third win of the season and extend their winning streak to a season high, two games. The North girls swimming team dropped their fourth game of the season last week.
