This Week in Sachem Football: Week 6, 2011

A historical look at the Flaming Arrows on the gridiron.

Every week I'll breakdown each game and what it means from a historical perspective in the football programs at Sachem North and East. As the season progresses, the numbers and statistics become more and more interesting, but here's the information from this week:

  • Saturday's game was the first time Sachem East has ever played West Islip.
  • The 37 points by West Islip are the most allowed by Sachem and the 6 points scored are the least the Arrows have put up this season.
  • Sachem East has lost consecutive games for the first time since 2010.
  • This was the first game this season junior Steven Casali did not score a touchdown.
  • West Islip has been a thorn to Sachem coach Mark Wojchiechowski since he played for the Flaming Arrows in the 1980s. As a senior in 1985 - the same year he won the Hansen Award - West Islip beat Sachem in the Suffolk County Division I championship, 24-7.
  • The Steven Casali File: Casali, a junior, has rushed for 907 yards and 14 touchdowns in four games.

  • Sachem's loss in Week 6 is its first regular season loss since Week 7 in 2008, a 44-7 defeat to Lindenhurst.
  • The Flaming Arrows have won 26 of their last 29 games dating back to 2008.
  • The 37 points allowed are the most this season and 22 points scored are the least Sachem has put up as well.
  • William Floyd leads Sachem 12-16 all-time and has outscored the Flaming Arrows, 592-474.
  • In the 16 wins for Floyd, the Colonials scored 35 or more points against Sachem six times.
  • Floyd has beat Sachem 10 of their last 12 meetings dating back to 2002.
  • Sachem is 33-17-1 all-time in Week 6.
  • The Dalton Crossan File: With his 207 yards on Saturday, Crossan (18 TDs and 1,138 rushing yards in 2011) currently has 2,109 career yards, good enough for No. 5 all-time in Sachem history. Next on the list is No. 4 Davon Lawrence (2,166), No. 3 Michael Botti (2,219), No. 2 Charles Hall (2,582) and No. 1 James O'Neal (3,786). If you add in his numbers from two varsity seasons at Shoreham, he has 3,153 career yards as a high school football player. Currently he also has the ninth highest single-season yardage right now in Sachem history. Crossan also ranks No. 22 all-time in Suffolk County history in rushing yards and No. 32 in Long Island history.
