This Week in Sachem Football: Week 4, 2011

A historical look at the Flaming Arrows on the gridiron.

Every week I'll breakdown each game and what it means from a historical perspective in the football programs at Sachem North and East. As the season progresses, the numbers and statistics become more and more interesting, but here's the information from Week 3:

Combined note*: The is the first time Sachem East and North are both 4-0 in a season at the same time! They are also the only remaining undefeated teams in Suffolk County's Division I.

  • This is the first time Sachem East has started the season 4-0. The record for wins in a season at East is 5, recorded in 2004 and 2005. The longest varsity winning streak is four games, set during the 2004 season.
  • The four wins are more than Sachem East had combined in 2009 and 2010.
  • The 34 points East scored against Ward Melville are the most the Arrows have scored this season.
  • The is the fourth shutout in program history, the last coming in Week 3 of the 2005 season against Commack.
  • The 0 points allowed are also the lowest total against Sachem this season.
  • East is 5-3 all-time in Week 4 games.
  • Sachem East has scored more points in its opening four games of the 2011 season than any other opening four games since 2004.
  • Sachem East is 3-2 all-time against Ward Melville.
  • The Steven Casali File: Casali, a junior, has rushed for 589 yards and 11 touchdowns in four games.

  • Sachem has started a season off 4-0 only 11 other times since the program began. This is third consecutive season to achieve this mark.
  • Sachem has won 25 of its last 27 games dating back to the final game of the 2008 season.
  • Sachem is 32-14-5 all-time in Week 4 games.
  • Sachem is 16-12 all-time against Longwood, outscoring the Lions, 591-458. The rivalry dates back to 1986.
  • This is the seventh time in 28 games that Sachem has scored 35 or more points against Longwood, and second straight season.
  • This is the ninth time in 50 years that Sachem has scored 35 or more points in a Week 4 game (come on, where else can you find out fun stats like this!).
  • Malik Pierre's touchdown against Longwood marked the first time this season a player other than a Crossan has scored: Dalton 15, Trent 1 and Malik 1.
  • The Dalton Crossan File: With his 156 yards and 4 touchdowns, Crossan (15 TDs and 703 rushing yards in 2011) currently has 1,674 career yards, good enough for No. 9 all-time in Sachem history. If you add in his numbers from two varsity seasons at Shoreham, he has 2,731 career yards as a high school football player. He needs 292 rushing yards to bounce out former teammate Michael Andreassi (1,966) from No. 7 all-time. Note, he already has 15 rushing touchdowns, which is how many he had in 11 games during 2011. He has also rushed for 4 touchdowns three times (Bay Shore, Northport, Longwood).
