2012 Suffolk Pre-Season FB Rankings: North 2, East 3

Sachem schools seeded close and will play during Week 4 of regular season.

Get ready for Nor'Easter No. 5. Sachem North and Sachem East, ranked second and third, respectively, in pre-season Suffolk County Division I rankings, will face-off during Week 4 this fall.

The rankings were released Wednesday evening by the Suffolk County Football Coaches Association. William Floyd, the defending Suffolk County Division I and Long Island Class I champion, earned the top seed for the second straight season.

"The seeding process is always interesting," said Sachem North Head Football Coach Dave Falco. "It's coaches in a room discussing what they feel their team has coming back or what they lost to graduation. We are happy with our seed at No. 2. It's where we thought we would be."

Sachem East had the highest jump of any team in Division I, going from No. 13 in 2011, up 10 spots to No. 3 for 2012. Sachem East finished 6-4 in 2011, in what was the most invigorating season in school history. East eventually lost to North, 57-6, in the Division I semifinals. That was the highest scoring game in Sachem North football history.

"I'm not surprised by East's seed at No. 3," Falco said. "We had them at No.4. They were tied with Bay Shore and it went to a tie breaker which East won by last year's final standing. Both are going to have good teams returning."

East returns one of the best players on Long Island in Steven Casali, who was a finalist for the Cipp Award as a top running back in Suffolk and the Collotta Award as a top linebacker in Suffolk after his performance in 2011.

North returns quarterback Trent Crossan, who will be a junior in the fall and is coming off a torn ACL. The Flaming Arrows also return running back Malik Pierre, a sophomores last season, and Tyler Andreassi will be a senior this fall.

North, however, loses one of its finest players in program history in Dalton Crossan, who was a co-winner of the Hansen Award, given to the top player in Suffolk. He will be playing at Division I New Hampshire.

William Floyd returns three All-County players from its 2011 roster, including quarterback A.J. Otranto and linebackers Miguel Brennin and Marc Coles.

Nor'Easter 2012 will be played at Sachem North during Week 4. It's the fifth time the schools have met and the fifth time the game has been played at Fred Fusaro Alumni Stadium in Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y. This is the first time the schools have played one another in back-to-back years since the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

North leads East, 112-53, in total points scored in the rivalry. North also leads the series, 3-1, all-time and have won three straight out of the four total meetings.

Sachem North and William Floyd will meet for the seventh time since 2009. Sachem is 2-4 in the last six meetings with Floyd, including three straight loses in the Division I championship. The Flaming Arrows and Colonials will meet on Saturday, October 13 during Week 6.
