Suffolk County Playoff Football Brackets Released

Sachem North to play Pat-Med, Sachem East to play West Islip.

The official Suffolk County football playoff brackets were released Sunday afternoon.

Sachem North, who clinched the top seed in Division I, will host No. 8 Patchogue-Medford Friday night at 7 p.m. No. 6 Sachem East will travel to No. 3 West Islip Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.

Sachem North (7-1) has not played Patchogue-Medford (4-4) since Week 1 of 2010. The Raiders, who finished the last two seasons with a 2-6 record, rallied this year to make their first post-season appearance in three years.

Sachem East (5-3) is playing in the post-season for the first time since 2008. The bad news is they're playing one of the hottest teams in Division I. West Islip (7-1) beat Sachem East 37-6 earlier this season.

With a win in the quarterfinals, Sachem North will most likely face No. 4 William Floyd in a critical semifinal battle. It will decide if Sachem's Dalton Crossan or Floyd's Stacey Bedell will win the Hansen Award.

On the flip side, if Sachem East can upset West Islip, then they could possibly play Sachem North. And, another option is if Bay Shore upsets Longwood, then Sachem North would play them.

There are some Sachem connections in Division IV, as usual. John Glenn, led by Sachem alum Dave Shanahan and Sachem legend Fred Fusaro, is the top seed again. Glenn is the defending Suffolk County Division IV, Long Island Class IV and Rutgers Trophy champion. Mt. Sinai, led by Sachem alum Vinny Ammirato, grabbed the third seed.

Sachem North is making its 50th (27-22) apperance in a playoff game in the quarterfinals and has played in the last two Suffolk County championships. Sachem East is making its second playoff appearance in program history.

Sachem has played a handful of important playoff games against Pat-Med in the past. Most notably in 1977 when the Flaming Arrows captured their first Suffolk County title, and in 2002 in the county final, which was Fusaro's final game as head coach at Sachem.

  2. Longwood
  3. West Islip
  4. William Floyd
  5. Lindenhurst
  6. Sachem East
  7. Bay Shore
