Shanahan Inducted to C.W. Post Hall of Fame

Helped Sachem and C.W. Post have major success on gridiron.

Sachem alum was inducted into the C.W. Post Hall of Fame Friday evening with the Class of 2011.

Joining him were Post alums Ernie Altamirano ’76, Jeremiah Pope ’04, Rob Blount ’07 and Durrell Pearsall ’92, who died on Sept. 11, 2001 as a member of the FDNY.

According to the school, Altamirano, Shanahan, Pope and Blount will make another appearance on Saturday as they walk out with the current Pioneer captains for the pregame coin toss against West Chester.

At Sachem, Shanahan was an integral part of the football team in 1986 that captured a Suffolk County championship 25 years ago and won the Rutgers Trophy. Shanahan ranks fifth all-time for rushing yards in a single season at Post with 1,160 recorded in 1989.

He is the current head football coach at John Glenn High School, where the Knights won a Class IV Long Island championship last season. His assistant is former longtime Sachem football coach , who attended the ceremony Friday with Shanahan.
