Scanna Named NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week

Sachem alum has big game against Western Connecticut.

It didn’t take long for Sachem North alum Jesse Scanna to make his mark in college football.

The 2011 graduate was named New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Rookie of the Week after big contributions in Cortland’s 56-10 shellacking of Western Connecticut, a less than formidable conference opponent.

Scanna, who was a Hansen Award nominee and arguably the best two-way player in Sachem football history, recorded seven total tackles, including six solo stops, in the win.

He also recorded 3.5 tackles for a loss in the defensive effort, which limited the Colonials to 143 total yards of total offense.

Scanna is tied for eighth in the NJAC in sacks with a 0.50 per game average.
