Santiago, Pistone Place Sixth, Make All-State

Two wrestlers from Sachem competed in New York State Tournament.

Two wrestlers from Sachem competed at the New York State Wrestling Tournament at Times Union Center in Albany Friday and Saturday.

Sachem North's Gio Santiago, who won a Suffolk County championship this year, lost in the 182-pound quarterfinal match against Andrew Jones from Plainedge, 14-6.

Santiago, a junior, beat Dan Choi from Syosset, 3-1, in the first round.

Sachem East's Anthony Pistone, who was a runner-up at 145 in Suffolk County, earned a wild card bid to states. He lost in the first round to Kyle Wierzbicki from Warwick Valley (Section IX), 5-2.

Both wrestlers placed sixth and earned All-State honors.
