Sachem's Pro Athlete Update

How are the former Sachem athletes performing at the highest level?

Not many high schools have athletes representing them in the professional sports world. Sachem is fortunate to have three: Billy Alvino (Detroit Tigers organization), Mike Parisi (Chicago Cubs organization) and Doug Shanahan (Chicago Machine, MLL).

Alvino has only played in four games with the Lakeland Flying Tigers, a High-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. He was promoted last month after spending the first month of the season with the West Michigan Whitecaps. With Lakeland, Alvino has three hits and one RBI in 12 at-bats.

Parisi originally hoped to make the big league roster for the Cubs out of spring training. He was rejuvenated after they selected him in the Rule 5 draft out of St. Louis. Things didn't work out as he hoped and he was sent to Triple-A Iowa and is now at Double-A Tennessee, playing for the Smokies of the Southern League. Parisi is 0-3 in six starts this season with a 7.84 ERA.

Shanahan, the most accomplished in his sport of the three, is playing for the Chicago Machine again this year, his eighth season in the MLL. He has scored two goals and added two assists in four games. His career points total stands at 99 right now.
