Sachem Well Represented at USATF National Club Championships

Multiple former and current Sachem racewalk athletes competed at this year’s USA Track & Field National Club Championships held this week at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island

Competing for the Long Island based Walk USA club team were alum Maria Michta, Sachem North's Katie Michta, and Kelly Maranchuck, Holly Lindoe, and Sarah LaPorta from Sachem East.

The 5 Kilometer Racewalk was held Saturday in extremely hot conditions, slowing times considerably, but the Sachem contingent competed well, taking five of the eight scoring positions.

Maria Michta, , had an opportunity to put in a hard effort in weather conditions similar to those she will find at the World Championships in South Korea later this summer and won the race in 23:30.79.

Maranchuck was third in 29:24.27, Katie Michta fourth in 30:13.97, Lindoe sixth in 33:12.03, and LaPorta placed seventh in 33:21.95.

Together they totaled 26 points, good enough for Walk USA to earn enough points in that one event to place eighth overall in the women’s competition with 26 points. The women’s team title was won by the Virginia based Norfolk Real Deal Track Club with 138 points.
