Sachem Sports Notebook

A student update on some teams in the school district.

Sachem North

Wrestling: On last Wednesday Sachem moved to 2-0 in League I with a 47-20 victory over Commack. They are now tied for first place with Ward Melville, and will host Brentwood next Wednesday.

Boys Basketball: On Friday, Sachem fell by one, 51-50, to Ward Melville at home. Junior Danny Urbanski led the way in points with 20, including six three-pointers. Jack Gannon had nine and two three-pointers, but it would not be enough for the win. The team is now 0-5 in League I. Sachem will travel to Patchogue-Medford on Tuesday and host William Floyd on Friday. Both games begin at 5:45 p.m.

Girls Basketball: On Thursday, January 12, Sachem North fell 50-30 on the road at Ward Melville. Danielle Levine had 15 points including a three-pointer. The team is now 1-4 in League I, and will host Patchogue-Medford on Tuesday. They will travel to William Floyd on Friday. 

Sachem East

Wrestling: On Wednesday, January 11, Sachem defeated Northport, 61-12. Billy Merone won by a pin at 0:59 to lead Sachem East (2-0) in League II. On Friday, January 13, Sachem defeated Lindenhurst 61-9 to move to 3-0 in League II. On Wednesday, the team will travel to West Islip (1-1-1).

Boys Basketball: On Thursday, January 12, Sachem fell 54-43 on the road in Commack. Joe Santarpia had 17 points including seven field goals and one three-pointer. Randall Colson had 10 points. The team is now 1-4 in League I and will host Longwood on Wednesday. On Friday, they will travel to Brentwood. 

Girls Basketball: On Saturday, January 14, Sachem continued its perfect season with a 61-43 victory at home against Commack. Meagan Doherty had 29 points including six field goals, five three-pointers, and seven rebounds. Kathleen Everson added 10 points. The girls will travel to Longwood on Wednesday to try and preserve their perfect season. On Thursday, they will host Brentwood.
