Sachem Patch Youth Sports Notebook

A weekly look at how the future of Sachem sports are doing.

This football winning thing is getting contagious in Sachem. The Sachem Sports Club's 11-year old travel team won again and improved to 4-0, just like the varsity teams at Sachem East and North.

This week, the youngsters beat Bay Shore, 23-0.

“This team is truly the dream team,” one team mom said. “This team has truly proven they are ready for battle against whatever comes up against them.”

Sachem Speed Grind Out Big Win

The Sachem Speed, a girls U10 soccer travel team, gutted out a tough 1-0 victory over previously undefeated Commack Wildfire.

The Speed, who play in the Long Island Junior Soccer League’s Suffolk Major Division, scored late in the first half off a well placed corner kick. There was a scramble in front of the Commack goal and the Speed was able to bury the ball into the back of the goal.

The entire team then buckled down on defense and kept Commack off the scoreboard. It was the first win for the Speed after two ties and one loss.

Coaches Rob Rinfret and Dan Papele expect the Speed to battle for first place in what looks like an extremely competitive division.

Rinfret treated the girls to ice cream after the game.

“They earned it,” he said, “they played great.”
