Sachem North's Andrea Licostie Commits to Mercy

Will play college field hockey and lacrosse.

Sachem North's Andrea Licostie will play college field hockey and lacrosse at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.

"After numerous college visits and meeting with many coaches, Mercy seemed like the perfect choice for me," said the All-Sachem Patch First Team selection. "Perfect little town and perfect distance away from home, not too far but not too close."

"Knowing and coaching her for the past four years, I can tell you Andrea is one of the fiercest competitors you will find," added Sachem North lacrosse assistant coach Ed Manly. "Although she started playing lacrosse her junior year, she managed to start our second game of the season and has done a great job as a defender.  Her intensity and desire to win make her a pleasure to coach.  I am sure she will find success in both lacrosse and field hockey."

She loved the coaching staffs, and campus, located right on the Hudson River.

Mercy's lacrosse program is only one year old, which "opens the door for me to make an immediate impact," she said, "bringing great opportunities for me academically and athletically in the future."

And how about having less stress down the final stretch of her senior season?

"Making the big decision feels great," said Licostie, who will major in psychology. "It's a relief to know that all the time and hard work I put in finally paid off."

Last year, Mercy finished 8-6 overall and 3-4 in East Coast Conference play. The field hockey team finished 0-13 in 2010.
