Sachem North Laxer Commits to NYIT

Senior Jake Slater will lace up in 2015 for the NYIT Bears in Old Westbury.

Sachem North Lacrosse mid-fielder turned attack man Jake Slater has committed to play for New York Institute of Technology when he graduates from Sachem in 2014.

The incoming senior will be coming off a solid 2013 season, where he was crowned All-Division. Slater made the varsity squad in his sophomore year.

“Jake is a throw back lacrosse player,” Sachem coach Jay Mauro told The Sachem Report. “He’s great between the lines and can go to the rack. He also has great eyes. I attribute his toughness and athletic ability to him being a three-sport athlete.”

Slater also plays football and wrestles for the Flaming Arrows. When he attends NYIT, he'll be joining Sachem alums Eric Talbot and Shawn Murphy. The NYIT Bears Men's Lacrosse Team made the NCAA Division II Tournament last season, but was ousted by Adelphi 14-11. Murphy, a freshman at the time, scored a goal in the loss.

"Congratulations to Jake and his family," Mauro stated in an email to Patch. "We are very proud and happy for him."
