Sachem North wrestling, in its first action of the season, crowned six champions and put 12 in the finals at Saturday's Walt Whitman Tournament.

As a team, it placed 29 wrestlers, just missing out on a school-record 34 medals that it won in last year's tournament appearance.

Freshman sensation Sean O'Hagan had two pins in three matches including one in 1:29 in the finals. It was O'Hagans first career varsity matches.

"He has a bright future," said Sachem North head coach Ray Pickersgill. "He, and teammate Matt Marino are two freshman competing at a high level at such a young age."

Marino also took his weight class, defeating teammate David Johnson in the 125 pound final.

"Marino had what was arguably the most exciting match of the tournament," Pickersgill said.

He beat West Babylon's Jeorge Berrero, 8-5, coming back from a 5-3 deficit with only 13 seconds left.

"He just didn't stop wrestling until the match was done, that really exemplifies what we're trying to do as a team, keep coming at you no matter what the score," Pickersgill added.

Junior 119-pounder Frank Napoli also was a champion defeating West Babylon's Brandon Rodriguez by fall in 57 seconds.

At 189 pounds Chris Schulz won by fall in 1:29 to defeat Whitman's John Russell and win the crown.

Also taking home titles was 160-pounder Vin Provenzano, and Anthony Marino at 171 pounds. Both wrestlers defeated teammates in the finals.

"I thought we wrestled well today, we have a real young team and I felt they took on all comers and wrestled hard," said Pickersgill. "I'm starting to get a better handle on what I have moving forward and am excited to see what the season brings."

The Arrows are in action next Wednesday night at home against William Floyd at 6 p.m.
