Sachem North A Win Away From Championship Game

North will travel to Connetquot for a chance to punch their ticket to LaValle Stadium.

The Suffolk County high school football playoffs are still in full swing with four teams left alive in each of the four county divisions. One thing is for sure, by the end of this weekend two teams will be heading off to the county championship game held every year at LaValle Stadium on the campus of Stony Brook University. Check out the breakdown of all the division action and get ready to break out the blankets and cheer on your team!

Division I

The Sachem North Flaming Arrows are in familiar territory: back knocking on the door of a trip to LaValle Stadium and unlike last year they won’t need to get past Floyd to do it. All they need to do is beat No. 2 Connetquot on the Thunderbirds’ field this Saturday at 1 p.m. and they’re at the big dance. Reminder, tickets for this game are $6 at the entrance.

Over in Commack the top-seeded Cougars will be challenged on their home field by the reigning champion William Floyd Colonials. Could this be the year that mighty Floyd gets slain? If so, the Cougars will punch their ticket to Stony Brook and await the winner of Sachem/Connetquot. The game starts at 1 p.m on Saturday. Tickets are $6 at the entrance.

Division II

The top-seeded Riverhead Blue Waves advanced to this round with a win over Half Hollow Hills West. Now they’ll host No. 5 seeded Newfield High School for a chance to go back to the county championship game. This game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Riverhead High on Saturday. Tickets are $6 at the gate.

In Division II, the No. 2-seeded Smithtown West Bulls will host No. 3-seeded East Islip in a game that promises to be a good one. If the Bulls can get past the Redmen, they’ll be heading to Stony Brook for a chance to win it all.

Division III

The big story in division three is undefeated and No. 1-ranked Miller Place, who will be playing at home for a chance to make the county championship game if they get past No. 7 Sayville. The Golden Flashes are no pushovers. Last week they knocked off No. 2 seeded Islip to earn this trip to Miller Place. If they beat the Panthers, it would be a huge upset, and it will mean a return trip to the county championship for Sayville. The game starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $6 at the entrance.

No. 4 Huntington will host No. 6 Bellport on Saturday at 1 p.m. Huntington can earn a chance to go to the big dance if they can handle their business at home. If they win, they’ll head to Stony Brook to play the winner of Miller Place/Sayville for all the marbles. Tickets to this game are $6.

Division IV

Mighty Babylon, the No. 1 ranked team in the division will host No. 4-seeded Shoreham-Wading River, who roundly defeated Center Moriches last week for a chance to play for a trip to Stony Brook. On Friday at 6 p.m. we’ll find out if Babylon can stay undefeated and head to the big dance to play the winner of Elwood-John Glenn vs. Mt. Sinai.

No. 3-seeded Elwood-John Glenn will head to Mt. Sinai to face the Mustangs on Friday night at 6 p.m. in what could shape up to be a battle to the end, as both teams are closely ranked. Mt. Sinai sits in the No. 2 seed. Elwood-John Glenn knocked off Bayport-Blue Point last week, while the Mustangs took care of Greenport/Mattituck/Southold at home and earned the right to stay where they are this week.

Next stop: the County Championships!
