Sachem East Girls Win Joe Brandi Relays Tournament

Score in 15 out of 18 total events.

The Sachem East girls track and field team competed Saturday at the Joe Brandi Relays at Connetquot High School.

The Arrows, who finished first overall with 141 points, scored in 15 out of the 18 total events.

The two x 1,500-meter racewalk team of Kelly Maranchuk and Amanda Catherall took first in a combined time of 15:02.9. Maranchuk was the second fastest individual with a season best time of 7:26.4. Catherall was the fifth fastest and her time of 7:36.5 was also a season best performance.

Another first place team was the Mile Medley team of Melanie Notarstefano (400m) Allyson Figalora (200m), Amanda DiSalvo (200m), and Rachel Paul (800m). Their winning time of 4:16.4 was nearly seven seconds faster than second place Northport.

The Sachem East girls also dominated in the throwing events. In the 2 x Shot Put, Brittany Sepe and Gabby Trejo combined to throw 69'9.25'' to win the event by over seven feet. Sepe's throw of 37'00.25'' was the best out of all individuals and it was also her personal best. In the 2 x Discus, Brittany Sepe and, this time, Diamond Jackson, combined to throw 179'6'', ten feet further than the second place team.

In the 4 x 100m Relay, the team of Ebonie Lewis, Ashley Mercado, Essence Sterling, and Alyssa Genduso finished a close second in a time of 51.3, right behind the talented Garden City team (51.1). Also placing second were the combined times of Samantha Eng and Jessica Grassi in the 2 x 100 High Hurdles Relay. Eng's time of 17.2 made her the fastest individual of the day.

Grassi was the seventh fastest with her 17.8. Moreover, the Distance Medley Relay team of Rachel Paul (1200m), Kaitlin DiMartino (400m), Laurie Semetsis (800m), and Melanie Notarstefano (1600m) placed first in a time of 13:09.3.

Sachem East looks ahead to April 26 when they will be facing off against the Division 1 Champions from the winter, Northport.
