Both Sachem High Schools on Track for Big Seasons

North and East run all over opponents on Monday.

Monday's track results from Sachem East and North:

The Sachem East girls varsity track team beat Patchogue-Medford in its first meet of the season yesterday.

The Flaming Arrows won convincingly, 98.5-46.5.

Junior Brittany Christianson won the shot put with a throw of 35'6.5" and the discus with a toss of 93'8".

Sophomore Melanie Notarstefano won the 400-meter dash in 61.6 seconds. Sophomore Rachel Paul won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27 seconds. Freshman Laurie Semetsis won the 800-meter race in 2:38.8.

Junior Krystie Grygo won the 1,500-meter race in 5:27.2. Sophomore Danielle Vazquez won the 3,000-meter race in 12:01.9. Sophomores Amanda Catherall and Kelly Maranchuk took the top two spots in the 1,500-meter racewalk with times of 7:51 and 7:52 respectively.

The Flaming Arrows will travel to Middle Country on April 6 at 4 p.m. for their next meet.

North boys take win against C.I.

The Sachem North boys track team opened its season with a 95.5-37.5 win over Central Islip yesterday.

Joe Johnson won the long jump with a leap of 19'5", the 800-meter dash in 2:14.6 and was a strong part of the 4x400-relay, which finished in 3:39. Brian Wersan, Tameek McCoy and Tim Randazzo were the other three legs of the relay.

Bonifacio Aguila won the 100-meter race in 11.8 seconds and the high jump with a leap of 5'8". Eric Yesalonis won the pole vault event with a mark of 9-feet, and won the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 65.4 seconds. Dour Cornell won the shot put with a toss of 43'4" and the discuss with a 117' mark. Connor Dolan won the 1,600-meter run in 4:55.2 minutes. Dave Martins won the 3,200-meter run in 10:27.2.

East boys beat Pat-Med in opener

The boys run again on Saturday March 27 at the Amityville developmental meet.

The Sachem East boys track team beat Patchogue-Medford, 90-60.

Nick Turano won the long jump (18'4"), Lucas Brum won the shot put (40'1") Alex Saavedra won the 800-meter race (2:03) and Greg Markfelder won the 400-meter race (54.1 seconds).

Brandon Davis won the 100-meter dash (11.7). Davis was also part of the 4x100 relay that finished in 47 seconds. Josh Baker, Brian Bischof and Owen Martin were also part of that relay.

East also swept in hurdles.

It was, "a great start to the season," said East head coach Joe Orenzo.

Middle Country comes to town April 6 at 4 p.m. for their next meet.
