Sachem East Downs Commack, 32-7 [Photos]

Arrows win undefeated battle, improve to 3-0 with win over Cougars.

Note to Suffolk County Division I: Steven Casali is on a mission and is only a junior.

The Sachem East running back continued on his destructive path through defensive fronts, and led the Arrows with a career-high 240 yards and three long-yardage touchdowns in a 32-7 victory over Commack Saturday during the Cougars' homecoming celebration.

Casali opened the game’s scoring with a 50-yard touchdown run, but Commack stayed close early on with a Brandon Cook 4-yard touchdown.

Sachem’s Anthony Riggi dumped a pass to Brian Balsalmo, which he turned into a 44-yard touchdown.

The Arrows led 12-7 at halftime and continued to ride their horse, Casali, in the second half, putting on another 20 points and silencing the road crowd, something new for the revamped East squad.

The turning point of the game was Ryan Dippel's interception in the beginning of the second half for Sachem.

Casali finished his work with touchdowns of 68 and 57 yards later on and Sachem’s 15-game losing streak that lasted 729 days and dated back to Week 1 of the 2009 season seems to drift farther and farther away from the program.

"Going into Commack we knew they were going to be pumped up so we went out there and matched their intensity," Casali said. "The o-line had another awesome game and they were the reason why we got 37 points today."

Sachem East improves to 3-0 for the first time in school history, while Commack drops to 2-1. It's also the first time both Sachem East and Sachem North have identical 3-0 records.

Sachem hosts Ward Melville Saturday, Oct. 1 in Week 4 action at 6 p.m., while Commack hosts Patchogue-Medford the same day at 2 p.m.

"We have to have a good week of practice in order to get 'W'," Casali said of Sachem's next opponent.
