Sachem East Boys Track & Field Ends Regular Season with 80-60 win over Brentwood

Junior Greg Pekar sets East hurdles record in victory.

The Sachem East boys track and field team defeated Brentwood Wednesday, 80-60, to finish its regular season at 4-2.

East took care of business in many of the events, including the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter races, intermediate hurdles, shot-put and pole jumps.

The highlight of the day came during the hurdle race, where East placed first and third. The story, though, was junior Greg Pekar breaking an East track record with a time of 16.5 seconds.

"It feels really good," said Pekar with a smile, trying to keep warm in weather. "It feels like I accomplished something."

"It's great for him," said East assistant coach Greg Wrightson. "He worked very hard [for the record], and really earned it."
