Sachem East and North to Scrimmage Thursday

Football programs to battle in four-way with shift in schedules.

Thank you, Irene. You haven't even hit yet, but you've actually produced something worthwhile for the Sachem community.

According to Sachem Director of Athletics Pete Blieberg, the varsity football programs at Sachem East and North will play in a four-way scrimmage Thursday, September 1 at 5 p.m. The scrimmage will be held at East.

Both teams were originally scheduled to play in four-way scrimmages against other opponents on Wednesday, but almost all local school districts cancelled Monday activities, forcing practice and tryout schedules to go askew for the entire island.

With North still firing on all cylinders and competing as a top Division I program in Suffolk County and East having found a new source of vigor with its leadership from the top down, this should make for one of the more interesting scrimmages in recent memory.

Although points aren't counted and either team will not walk away having won or lost a scrimmage, we thought you should know the history between the programs.

Since Sachem East was founded in 2004, the schools have played three times. North leads the series, 2-1, and captured victories in 2006 (9-0) and 2009 (33-7). East won the opening contest in 2005, 40-13.
