Sachem East Alum Stefanie Mignone Earns SUNYAC Goalie of the Week Honor at New Paltz

Switched from hoops to lacrosse and it's paying off.

Stefanie Mignone didn't even play lacrosse in high school and now she's winning conference honors at the college level.

The Sachem East alum from the Class of 2008 and Farmingville resident led New Paltz to its first ever 2-0 start, posting a .690 save percentage and was named SUNYAC Women's Goalie of the week.

Mignone, a junior, made 10 saves in the 10-6 season opening win against Ramapo and stopped 19 shots in the 14-7 victory over Farmingdale State.

The two wins marks only the second time in the history of the lacrosse program that New Paltz has won consecutive games.

Mignone was a three-year starter for the basketball team at Sachem East and originally went to New Paltz to shoot hoops, but only played her freshman season.

Last year she was asked to be on the lacrosse team as a backup goalie and quickly turned that into a starting role.

She played lacrosee in junior high but did not paly in high school because she of the demands of AAU basketball at the time.
