Sachem Boys Swimming Falls to Top Ranked Half Hallow Hills

After slow start, North got close, but ultimately fell 92-86.

In the toughest meet thus-far this season, the Sachem North boys swim team fell short against top-ranked Half Hallow Hills, 92-86, Monday afternoon at the Sachem North pool. The loss was North's first of the season, dropping them to 3-1.

"It wasn't as close as I thought it would be," said Sachem coach Larry Saposnick. "[Half Hallow Hills] is a very deep team. They're number one in the county and wouldn't be surprised if they're number one on Long Island. They're really good."

After a slow start, the Arrows made things interesting towards the end. They were down 50-25 early after Hills won the 200-meter medly relay, 200-meter freestyle and 200-yard individual.

Although admittedly not his best performance, Sachem's lone diver Brendon Graham scored well in the competition. "I didn't do my best, but I'll practice more for the next meet," he said following his portion of the meet. "Whatever dives I didn't do too good in the meet, I'll work on in practice to get better at."

Hills followed the diving portion with a victory in the 100-meter butterfly, when Jared Siegel taking the win with a score of 0:56.41.

Sachem and Hills traded victories in the final events, including the 100-freestyle and 500-freestyle.

"We swam very well today. Some of us swam our best times. We'll move forward and learn from this."
