Sachem Alum Tufano Opens RingFit Gym in Florida

Former boxer is giving lessons on fighting and loving every minute.

Carmine Tufano picked up boxing gloves when he was 2-years old – he has the picture to prove it. He launched a successful professional boxing career that ended in 2003 with a 21-1 record and an amateur mark of 30-3 before that.

Tufano, who grew up in Farmingville and graduated from Sachem in 1995, has taken his years of experience and developed the RingFit system, which catapulted to the opening of a new gym and training center in Davie, Fla. this fall. RingFit incorporates strength exercises combined with MMA techniques for a specified number of rounds to simulate what fighters endure in an actual fight in the ring.

“I wanted to incorporate something different,” he said. “It’s functional strength exercises combined with MMA techniques.”

Famous for his red, white and green trunks to honor his Italian heritage, Tufano’s most notable fighting experience was winning the New York State Super Middleweight Championship in 2001.

“That was the best thing I’ve done,” he said. “MSG is the mecca of boxing and I was the main event.”

He also fought in the New York Golden Gloves tournament, the Empire State Games and was part of an international fight against Team Ireland.

Tufano works full-time as a police officer in the Hallandale Beach Police Department, and even there he applies his desire for fighting as a defensive tactics instructor for the department.

“Boxing has always been my first love,” he said. ““It’ll never be out of my life.”
