Every so often Americans find themselves competing for other countries in international sporting events.
With dual citizenship in America and Ireland, Kevin Owens, a 1994 graduate of Sachem High School, played for Team Ireland at this year's World Lacrosse Championships in Manchester, England.
Owens scored 12 goals and dished out five assists for Ireland, which finished 3-0 in pool play ahead of Slovakia, Switzerland and Korea. The team came out of the tournament ranked No. 9 of 30 countries.
The United States beat Canada in the Gold Medal game.
Owens scored four goals in a 15-8 win over Sweden and five tallies in a 12-1 win over South Korea.
He played four years at Butler University and helped the school reach its first and only appearance in the NCAA tournament.
