Sachem Alum Named Swim Coach at St. Joseph's

Cortland grad and former five-year swim/dive team member at Sachem takes over local program.

Samantha Buckley became the latest Sachem alum to join the college coaching ranks Thursday when she was named the new head women’s swimming program at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, N.Y.

She takes over the team that was established in 2000 and hosts home meets in the Danzi Athletic Center’s natatorium.  

Prior to joining the St. Joseph’s coaching staff, Buckley was a coach for the Sachem Swim Club.

Buckley has also coached the SUNY Cortland adaptive swim team, which entailed working with children, teens and adults with multiple disabilities.

Buckley, who is currently enrolled in the special education and severe disabilities master’s program at St. Joseph’s, is a 2010 graduate of Cortland and studied childhood education and English language arts. She was a member of the Cortland swimming and diving team and is the holder of two school records, the 1,000 free and 800 free relay.

The Holbrook resident was a 2006 graduate of Sachem High School North, where she was a member of the varsity swimming and diving team for five years and earned the team MVP award each year.
