Sachem Alum Mike Parisi Picked Up LA Dodgers

Had brief stop on Long Island with Ducks before heading back to affiliated ball.

Sachem alum and Long Island Ducks starting pitcher Mike Parisi has been signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and will report to their Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico, according to the Ducks.

Parisi, who graduated from Sachem in 2001 and was previously affiliated with the Cardinals and Cubs organizations, has had an all-star season on Long Island, retooling his game after arm surgery prior to his separation from the Cubs.

“Mike was one of the backbones in our starting rotation,” Ducks manager Kevin Baez said in a statement. “He was truly an all-star, and we wish him all the best with the Dodgers.”

Parisi started 13 games with the Ducks this season, posting a 6-4 record and a 3.50 ERA, which was good for second in the Atlantic League behind teammate Mike Loree.

His 79 and two-thirds innings pitched ranked fourth in the league while his 76 strikeouts ranked third, one behind Loree. The right-hander was especially dominant with runners in scoring position, as opponents hit just .179 against him in those situations. He will join a pair of former Ducks currently playing with Triple-A Albuquerque (Jay Gibbons, 2008 and Randy Keisler, 2010).

The 28-year-old Lake Grove native is currently in his eighth season of professional baseball. He reached the Major Leagues in 2008 with the St. Louis Cardinals, pitching in 12 games (two starts). For his minor league career, Parisi has a record of 46-46 with a 4.29 ERA and 569 strikeouts in 134 games, all starts. He was originally drafted by the Cardinals in the ninth round of the 2004 amateur draft.

He becomes the second Duck in 2011 to be signed by an affiliated club and the third overall (Lenny DiNardo, Athletics and Valerio de los Santos, Mexico).
