Sachem Alum Davon Lawrence Has Break Out Performance in Stony Brook Spring Game

Rushes for 115 yards and 2 touchdowns in 51-15 win for SBU offense.

Sachem North alum Davon Lawrence welcomed himself to the college football world with an outstanding spring game performance for Stony Brook University last week.

The red shirt freshman and 2010 Sachem graduate rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Stony Brook offense to a 51-15 win over the defense.

Lawrence, who was named the first Sachem Patch Athlete of the Year in 2010, scored on touchdowns of 74 and 28 yards.

At Sachem, Lawrence is fourth all-time in career rushing yards with 2,166 yards and holds the career yards per carry record with 9.32. His five touchdowns against Commack in Week 8 of the 2009 season also tied James O’Neal’s program record for most touchdowns in a single game.

After the spring game, Stony Brook coach Chuck Priore gave out the team’s 2010 Big South championship rings.

Stony Brook opens the 2011 season Saturday, Sept. 3 at the University of Texas at El Paso in just their second game against a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) school.
