Sachem Alum College Football Update

A handful of graduates are representing Sachem at the next level.

This weekend marked the start of the college football season and with that means Sachem football is in the air. Why? Plenty former Flaming Arrows - many from the Class of 2009 - are playing college ball in the tri-state area.

Here's a look at what happened:

Joe Botti (Sachem East): He made his college debut for C.W. Post and caught two passes for 36 yards and a touchdown in Post's 20-11 win over American International.

Chris DiIorio (Sachem East): Also at Post, DiIorio dressed but did not play Saturday.

Ryan Grasman (Sachem North): A freshman at Westfield State, the former Sachem linebacker did not play in the school's 43-21 win over Nichols this weekend.

Joe Kirchner (Sachem North): Kirch, a lineman, followed the path of many former Sachem athletes and is playing at SUNY Cortland. He's on the roster, but does not have a number and will likely redshirt this season. Cortland plays Kean on September 11 to open the season.

Davon Lawrence (Sachem North): It will be tough for Lawrence to get playing time this season at Stony Brook, where four former Hansen Award winners (Brock Jackolski, Eddie Gowins, Miguel Maysonet and JaVahn Cruz) from Suffolk County are playing in the backfield for the Seawolves. Stony Brook opened the season with a 59-14 loss at the University of South Florida Saturday.

Mike Westerhaus (Sachem East): He's one of five quarterbacks on the roster at Bryant and as a freshman, he won't see much work, if any, this year.

Others: Chris Rickert (Cortland/North), Dan Cancro (Cortland/North) and Craig Zaleski (Post/North), have either not played in a game yet this year or start the season next weekend.
