Sachem High School alum Rich Cimini has jumped from the New York Daily News to the recently created ESPNNewYork.com, where he remains a beat writer for the New York Jets.
Cimini, who was at the Daily News for 14 years, got his start in journalism at the Sachem Harbinger, where he was sports editor and editor-in-chief during his high school days.
"He was the original muckraker," former Sachem football coach Fred Fusaro is fond of saying.
The Syracuse University graduate spent some time as a reporter for Newsday before working at the Daily News.
Former Daily News sports editor Leon Carter is the executive editor of ESPN New York and has hired a number of former editors and reporters from the Daily News to similar positions at ESPN, which like many news organizations is intrigued by the idea of local media coverage.
ESPN now has local sites in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York, with more to come.
Sachem Patch has contacted Cimini regarding his transition and is awaiting response.
