Sachem East Boys Cross Country: Northport 23, Sachem 32 ... Tom Rascona led East with a three-time time of 16:38 at the Sunken Meadow course. He was followed by Zach Patsy (16:44) and Ryan Scarpelli (16:51). Franklin Perez (17:12) and Jimmy Houghten (18:01) rounded out the scorers for East. The next meet is Saturday in the Suffolk Coaches Meet at Sunken Meadow.
Sachem North Girls Cross Country: Connetquot 23, Sachem 32 ... Junior Kelly Lavan’s 19:19 on Sunken Meadow’s three-mile course translates into a 6:27 per mile pace, a best pace ever on any XC course Lavan has run on at distances of 2.5 miles and up. She won her race against a strong Connetquot team today. Sachem legs did not show any fatigue despite racing for the second time in four days. And for the second straight meet, Sachem did not hold back as many team runners ran PBs on Sunken Meadow’s three-mile course. Katie Michta – Sachem’s No. 2 runner for the third straight meet – PB’d by 53 seconds, No. 3 runner Becca Duffy PB’d by 1:54, Dowon Hwang PB’d by 34 seconds, Monica Abrams PB’d by 52 seconds, Haley Entenmann PB’d by 1:15 and Aprilrose Marasco PB’d by a spectacular 7:30. Eighth grade sensation Mackenzie Coleman finished fourth for Sachem and ninth overall in a time of 21:49 in her first-ever three-mile race for the North Arrows varsity squad. Frosh Karina Garcia and Caitlin Maloney also ran strong races in their first three-mile distances for Sachem.
