Red, Black & Gold Scoreboard: October 5

A daily look at the sports action in Sachem.

Sachem North Girls Soccer: Sachem 2, Ward Melville 1 ... Sachem North shook up League I with a huge win over previously undefeated Ward Melville. Emily Jones opened up the scoring off a Devin McMahon cross with 19:06 remaining in the first half. Ward Melville's Casey Cohen tied the score less than five minutes later. With 14:16 left in the game, Leanna Curcio tallied her first varsity goal off a ball sent into the box by Ashlee Thompson. Sachem held strong to the one goal lead with outstanding defensive play, and incredibly strong support from the bench, according to coach Claude Amallobieta. Their bench played a huge part, and found a way to step it up even more during those last 14 minutes as Melville applied pressure time and time again. Fifteen players stepped on the field but 28 influenced the outcome of the game. Sachem North improved their league record to 4-1 and 6-1 overall. SNGVS's next game is on Oct. 11 when they will host Pat-Med.

Sachem East Girls Tennis: Port Jeff 5, Sachem 2
