Sachem East Girls Cross Country Update: The Sachem East girls cross country team won the featured Northeast Championship race at the Brown University Invitational at Goddard Park on Saturday. Competing against a field that included Rhode Island State defending champs LaSalle Academy and defending Massachusetts State Champs Weymouth, the race eventually developed into a battle of Suffolk county powers as Sachem East edged Northport 75-82, with Barrington of Rhode Island close behind with 95 points.

Rachel Paul stayed in the lead pack throughout the race and led the team with her second place finish in 17:39. The tight pack of Shannon O'Hehir (19:07), Melanie Notarstefano (19:14), and Danielle Vazquez (19:15), placed 14th, 15th, and 16th, and just like last week at the Manhattan College Invitational final team placing would come down to the fifth scorer. And just like last week Kaitlin DeMartino came through by placing 47th in 20:32 to help Sachem East bring home the Championship Trophy.
