A daily look at the sports action around Sachem.

Sachem North Boys Track & Field: Sachem 77, Connetquot 64 ...  Sachem North boys track follows up a county championship season with its first league championship in over 20 years. Connor Dolan definitively won the one mile and two mile against a deep and impressive Connetquot distance squad. Ryan Sampson and Doug Cornell came up big in the discus and shotput giving Sachem a 17-1 point edge at one point. Davon Lawrence, Bonifacio Aguila, and Darius Cooper swept the 100-meters while Brian Wersan and Joe Johnson took first and second in the 800.  Davon Christopher took first in the 200 and 400. Tim Randazzo won the 110-hurdles.  Immediately before the relays began, Johnson clinched the league championship with a triple-jump of 43 feet and four inches beating out Connetquot's Hightower's jump of 43 feet and three inches. The 4x400 put the icing on the cake as Johnson, Weilbacher, Wersan, and Christopher ran a 3:28. 

Sachem East Baseball: Sachem 11, Brentwood 2 ... Brian Castles struck out eight in a five-hitter for his first varsity win for East (7-8), who has now won five of six games and scored 39 runs in the last three games. Ryan Murphy went 3-for-3 with three RBI, Mike Shada had two hits with a three-run homer and four RBI and Chris Carroll had two hits. Dean Papakonstatis and Brendan Jones each had two hits.

Sachem North Baseball: Sachem 6, Whitman 2 ... Alec Sole struck out 12 batters and was 1-for-3 with two RBI for North (10-5), who clinched a playoff birth with the victory. Nick Santangelo was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Steve Kowalski was 2-for-3 with two runs.
